Millions of tons of plastic packaging waste are generated from the coffee industry every year and companies like Alpaca Coffee are on a mission to decrease this number as a 100% plastic-free coffee company. Alpaca Coffee, who recently had a successful fund on Kickstarter has sourced plastic-free coffee bags that are plant-based, made from completely renewable natural resources and fully compostable—including everything from the lining to the zipper closure. The material that Alpaca Coffee works with is called NatureFlex™ and it’s made from wood pulp, which means it’s heat sealable and permeable against moisture.
NatureFlex™ uses films that are based strongly on renewable resources. Most renewable bioplastics come from materials such as corn, potatoes or wheat. However, NatureFlex™ films are based on cellulose. Cellulose is one of the most naturally abundant organic materials.
This cellulose is derived from renewable wood pulp that has been sustainably harvested. NatureFlex™ films are certified ASTM D6400 for bio-based content, and depending on the grade of film, the bio-based content can vary from 90% to 99%.
Cellulose film packaging is a bio-compostable packaging solution manufactured from wood or cotton, both of which are easily compostable. Besides cellulose film packaging extends the shelf life of fresh produce products by controlling the moisture content.
The film features a unique heat seal resin on each side and has a super wide range. This leads to fantastic machine performance. NatureFlex™ static-free films can used on many different packaging machines, including flow-wrap and overlap.
NatureFlex™ films have a coating that can be tailored to varying degrees of moisture barrier. This helps maximize the shelf life of your products. The deadfold is spot on and the gloss of the film enhances the presentation of the products.
